The Gables

In 2011 we redeveloped The Gables into a property housing adults aged 18-55 with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and sensory impairment.

The Gables has 15 self-contained studio flats with two communal kitchens and two communal lounges. The Supported Living Team from London Borough of Merton provides 24-hour staffing to support the tenants with a focus on community engagement and developing independent living skills.

This scheme serves a broader age-range than our other work, but it dovetails perfectly with our other services because this user group needs similar access to the training, advice and employability services with which we are associated.

The service focuses on the individual, putting them and their family at the centre of the provision. It meets a real local need and has allowed Merton to provide supported housing inside the borough for the first time, allowing our clients to live near their families and friends.

We are working to increase our involvement over time and adapt the principles of the Foyer to suit the Gables residents.
